The Avengers: Infinity War is coming in 2018, and we already know that it'll bring the superhero team together with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, it's been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Doctor Strange in the movie as well.

Speaking with Empire magazine (via Express/Screenrant) for its recent article on the making of the upcoming Doctor Strange movie, star Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed that after making his debut in that, Stephen Strange will indeed join forces with the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy (and maybe some Defenders, we said hopefully) in the massive cosmic battle against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

After remarking on the "logistical challenge of aligning (my) schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany," Cumberbatch went on to say, "To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds."

Not only will Doctor Strange show up in Avengers: Infinity War, Benedict Cumberbatch is expected to return in Avengers 4, which still doesn't have a proper title. It isn't known if there are any Marvel cameos in Doctor Strange, though Tony Stark is rumored to be making an appearance. As it were, many are speculating that Infinity War will properly introduce the Sorcerer Supreme to the larger MCU. And it's possible that he could join the ranks of the Avengers. It has also been hinted recently that Doctor Strange will have a quick cameo in Thor: Ragnarok, with Chris Hemsworth spotted on set holding a business card with Stephen Strange's address on it.

Joe and Anthony Russo are directing Avengers: Infinity War after helming two of the franchise’s best entries to date, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. The film will pay off the Infinity Stones storyline that’s been playing out in the background ever since Thanos popped up in the end credits of 2012’s The Avengers, likely drawing from the Infinity Gauntlet comic book arc (rather than the Infinity War one that gives it its name).

Avengers: Infinity War arrives May 4, 2018 while ‘Doctor Strange’ heads to cinemas on 25 October 2016.
