Two decades ago she starred in his global juggernaut Titanic, Kate will reteam with director James Cameron in the cast of his 'Avatar' sequels.

According to Deadline, Kate Winslet has signed on for “a starring role in the ongoing Avatar adventure,” which presumably means that she’s on board to appear in multiple movies beyond just Avatar 2. She’ll be playing someone named Ronal, which is probably the name of a Na’vi person and not a human person, but these movies do take place in the future.

“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” Cameron told Deadline. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”

Winslet joins returning cast members from the original films (including, but not limited to, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang) as well as series newcomers like Cliff Curtis and a slew of young actors who’ll play young kids with a growing importance in the series.

“The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children,” Cameron said last year. “It’s more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans.”

Though Cameron is already filming, the first Avatar sequel won’t be out until December 2020. It’ll be followed in 2021, 2024 and 2025 by the remaining films.

In a 2004 episode of Inside the Actor’s Studio, Winslet commented at length on the difficulties of shooting Titanic and working with Cameron, whom she called “a perfectionist.” Working with him “would occasionally involve, you know, outbursts … if he was angry that something wasn’t working, or things were taking too long.”

Winslet was quick to mention that Cameron was also a “genius” and a “decent man,” but her negative comments were widely circulated after the interview. She has spoken at length in years since about the difficulties of shooting the film and its constant influence on her life, so much so that Cameron responded in a 2012 interview with Moviefone, saying, “It's been 16 years. Like, come on, Kate. Get over it. Take the win, girl!”

Winslet stars opposite Idris Elba in The Mountain Between Us which opens this Friday. The Reader Oscar winner next appears in Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel for Amazon, which opens December 1. She will also star in eOne’s untitled biopic about American photojournalist and war correspondent Elizabeth “Lee” Miller. Her other recent credits include Collateral Beauty, Triple 9, The Dressmaker and Steve Jobs.
